Continuing Professional Education

Are You Staying Current with ASPPA's Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Program?

ASPPA's current continuing professional education (CPE) program cycle began on January 1, 2009, and continues through December 31, 2010. All ASPPA credentialed members must participate in a mandatory continuing professional education program.

Who, What and When

CPCs, QPAs, QKAs, QPFCs, TGPCs, and APMs
In order to keep your ASPPA credential in good standing, you must earn 40 pension, investment or employee benefit related continuing education credits during the two-year cycle. Two (2) of these must be Ethics CPEs.  However, for the 2009/2010 cycle only, the requirement is for one Ethics CPE.  For newly credentialed members and those reinstating a credential, the number of CPE credits required is pro-rated based on the date of admittance or reinstatement within the two-year CPE cycle.

FSPAs and MSPAs
ASPPA will verify Enrolled Actuary status with the JBEA for all FSPA and MSPA members at the end of each three-year JBEA CPE cycle. FSPAs and MSPAs do not need to file an ASPPA CPE reporting form.

ERPAs: ASPPA will verify active ERPA status which is deemed to satisfy ASPPA CPE requirements.

If a credentialed member fails to comply with the continuing education requirements, his or her credentials will be suspended. Members may reinstate the suspended credential by earning 40 CPE credits and paying a $50.00 reinstatement fee.

Reporting Your CPE Credits
You can submit your qualifying CPE credit activity at any time. To download the CPE Reporting Form, log on to Members Only section of the ASPPA website using your member login and password. From there, select the CPE Reporting Form link on the right hand side of the page to access the online CPE reporting form.

All CPCs, QPAs, QKAs, QPFCs, TGPCs and APMs are required to submit an ASPPA Continuing Education Reporting Form in order to retain credentials.

For a full explanation of ASPPA's CPE program requirements and qualifying CPE activities, refer to the Continuing Professional Education Guidelines & Forms for 2009-2010 brochure.
